How many fish.....
Ok we all know that when learning we all killed a few fish. So you can tell why it happened and what not to do so it won't happen again.
I moved your thread here. Offtopic Discussion section does not cover fish-related threads and posts.;)
I think that a good many of us have lost fish through not cycling properly. Personally I have been very lucky. My first tank was a 10g. I set it all up, put the water in and got it running giving it time to heat up, the next morning I filled it with 6 cories and din't monitor water parameters at all, because I didn't know such a thing existed. Luckily, and somehow miraculously, I didn't loose anyone but it is a very common mistake. It's certainly not something I would do now despite mu luck first time round.
I lost a molly a while back. In Glasgow our water is very soft. Had I dont better research I would have known that mollies like very hard water, and as this is the suspected cause of her death I am responsible for it.
Another of my mistakes was not knowing that a fishes mouth is almost always bigger than it first seems. I had 4 molly fry only this week and had them in a breeding unit, then I set up a small 3g. I cycled it but then had a slight ammonia spike, probably due to having to feed them so often. I thoguht that at this point they seemed big enough to go in a tank with my betta without being eaten. Not so! I put them in and watched them swimming about. In the time it took me to disconnect the filter and heather from the small tank they were in, and empty the water and come back, there were no more fry in the tank, but one very satisfied looking betta! I didn't name him Hannibal Lecter for nothing :(
This is a good post actually AOA as it's much better to learn from other peoples mistakes than having to make them again yourself.
