Aquarium Lighting Question

I am just setting up my 90 gallon tank. I still need some lighting though. I was wondering if I could use just a regular strip light from Home Depot, or do I have to buy a light made specifically for my tank.. I was told by a pet store owner today that A Home Depot light would be good.. since I have a glass lid and a wooden hood that has vents in it. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dee

Appears to be a length.:)

I buy my lights from Ace Hardware.;) Fluorescent lights are the best way to grow plants compared to incandescents. You might give lumens consideration for planted tanks should you wish to keep plants as well.:)

Here are some good links to read.

That is an awesome website where they've obviously done their homework. There's even a calculator that'll give you a good idea of how much of what kind of light you need. Very well done.
