dwarf puffers
what is the minimum tank size? i have found quite a few sources saying 5g but to me this seems a bit small. also, is there a minimum amount that you would keep together or are they just as happy as a pair as they are a group of 10?

also is it true that they are all wild caught and cannot be bred in aquariums?

the rule seems to be 3g per fish 4-5g per fish if your having more(territorial)5g=1 fish there not a fish that likes company there a bit anti social if the tank can cycle well 5 g is fine for a single dwarf puffer
there captive bred but most come from other countrys bred in large outdoor ponds in warner climates like a lot of tropical fish

the reason i asked is that i have the option of taking a 7g from a friend who is getting rid of her fish (i already took a plec from her ages ago and now shes got rid of the rest and doesnt want the tank at all!!) and was thinking about getting a pair of dwarf puffers for it because i have a snail population overload in my other tanks and thoguht they might eat the snails. and if they dont then theyre really cute and ill like them anyway :D

its madness if i take it because i only yesterday bought a 30g which i have to build a stand for then will be setting up. this will them mean that i have a 30g, 35g and 7g. i have a 10g just now with cories but am planning to get rid of it and move the cories into one of the another tanks as its plastic front and is really scratched and starting to look really bad.

so with the 7g, in your opinion 1 or 2 puffers? i really like the idea of 2 of them more than just one, but i wouldnt do it if it was bad for the fish. it will be planted and have a wee cave for them so they can have territories

try arranging any decor theres no eye contact an see how they get on try a get two that are perfectly matched in size then one cant steal all the territory from the smaller
ive never seen mine eat snails but the fact the snails have all vanished says it all as for food please look to my puffer food post :D

i saw your puffer food post. was actually that post, coupled with being offered this 7g that made me want the puffers :D

i think i will give it a go with a pair of them, and just make sure plants are high, and there is a cave for them so that theyll not be in each others road all the time

thanks a lot

I keep 5 DP's in a heaviliy planted 125 litre tank, they are very happy together but don't school. They meet up constantly but all have their own favourite piece of territory. It is possible to spawn them given sufficient tank space, this is usually best accomplished with a single male and female.

My advice would be to have a tank with enough capacity to hold 1 male and 3 females to prevent aggression.

i almost definitly have one male to 3 females now the male is unmissable theve never shown any aggresion to each other but they certainly murder anthing else in the tank
