Petco $ a gal. New 55
 

My local petco is having a dollar per gallon sale so I'm going to get a 55. It's going to be a planted tank. I'm going to order my plants from sweet aquatics. I'm looking for some easy, fast growing plants to stock the tank with. I would like to have some swords and crypts too though.

Do you think it is necessary to use root tabs for the switches and crypts?

Depends on your substrate. If you use Eco-complete then you might not need root tabs. I use them even with Eco though. I also use Seachem's Flourish comprehensive fertilizer.

yea thats not supposed to be till the middle of next month. somebody's gonna b in trouble.

I'm using pool filter sand. It's amazing to me how much the root tabs cost. Does anybody have any plant suggestions? What's not supposed to be out yet?

So the nearest Petco is 2 1/1 hours away...and the sale starts TOMORROW and goes through the 18th of next month.

I'm really thinking about driving the 2 1/2 hours and getting the 55 gallon for $55...

Even with getting the filter and substrate and everything...I'll be under $200 which is NICE. Gotta build or find a good deal on a 55 gallon stand...

I'm imagining the 55 gallon here in my den now...very nice...I even signed up for the Petco PALS card online and printed off the UPC for my membership so if I go...I'm ready. lol

I guess it's time to call and see how many 55 gallons they have. I'd hate to drive there and it be for nothing!

The last tank I bought from the sale like this, they just gave me a new card and said bring it back filled, needless to say I've never filled it out and brought it back. Don't worry to much about the membership, the employees wont care and will just give you a fresh card.

I actually decided not to get it. By the time you purchase the hood and filter it's MORE than it is for a 55 gallon starter kit from the local Petsmart for $159.99. So when I finally get the money for one, I'll just get the kit from Petsmart. Just the tank and hood alone was going to be $155 if I went the way of the Petco...so yeah. :lol:
