is the cycle done?
Well guys, my tank has been cycling for almost four weeks now (with fish), but I can't tell if it's finished or not. The nitrite is reading at 0, but the ammonia seems to be hovering at about 1 ppm, and has been for the past two weeks. My test may just be totally off, what do you guys think? I don't have a nitrate test at the moment so I don't know what that level is, but I do know the pH is about 7.4

Have you done water changes to remove the ammonia?
Plants may also remove the ammonia. Do you have plants?
You should get a test kit ASAP including ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and gh or kh. There is a popular one called " Master Test Kit " that include those. Your readings should be NitrITE 0, Ammonia 0, and NitrATE under 40. I would suggest doing a water chan.ge that also blue suggested

I have been doing 20% water changes every 3 days since I started, and no, I don't have any live plants. It just seems strange that the nitrite would be 0 and the ammonia still present, and indeed it hasn't gone down for about 2 weeks now

might be because you've been doing so many water change and not letting it cylce properly and it could be doing a mini cycle

There's one thing I can get:
No or not enough bacteria is available to convert ammonia into nitrites.
Pls try to get another filter media from an established tank(preferably your lfs).

thats the thing, I don't have another established tank :-)
What blue was tryign to say is go to your lfs and ask/buy an established filter media from them and put it in your tank...
