baby mantis shrimp
Today I was observing my tank and I saw 2 bugs that I hadn't seen before. My tank has been running for 3 and a half months. These creatures have a clear body and move very fast. The tail end curves downward, and they also have antennae. Could these be baby mantis shrimp? What should I do? I think I know which LR they are in, and I'll try to get a picture of them. :(

if they are very tiny, they are probably anthropods and are fine. they are normal and will not hurt anything.

well, what do you mean by tiny? They are about a quarter of an inch. What do you think?

Are mantis shrimp the creatures with front arms that resemble the praying mantis'? My lfs told me that these creatures were incredibly powerful and could punch through glass.
I just did a quick Google and here is part of what the article on Wikipedia has to say about them...
Called "sea locusts" by ancient Assyrians, and now sometimes referred to as "thumb splitters" by modern divers — because of the relative ease the creature has in mutilating small appendages — mantis shrimp sport powerful claws, formed like jackknives, that they use to attack and kill prey by spearing, stunning or dismemberment. Some pet mantis shrimp have managed to break through their double-paned aquarium glass with a single strike from this weapon.
Young mantis will be apear clear so it doesnt have to look like the picture Melissa posted.
If you know the rock they hide in i would take that rock out durning the day and put it in a bucket and see if i could get the shrimp out. I have read stories of them breaking the glass of smaller tanks but i wouldnt worry about that as much as them eating all your fish an inverts. They are pretty good predators and will destroy all your inverts quickly.
