Algae removers

Hi all, I have a 30 gallon aquarium, and it houses a discus and two Bolivian rams. I have a filter larger than required for the tank and do regular water changes. Problem - I can't seem to keep a single algae remover alive, be they a pleco or the supposedly meanest type of algae eater. Any suggestions? Water chemistry tests are generally fine, and I don't see the discus bothering them...

Algae eaters don't eat all types of algae so if you don't have alot of what they do eat;they could be starving. They're probably half starved by the time they make it to your tank anyway from shipping to the lfs and then waiting to be bought.Have you tried algae wafers?

Yep, I have seen them doing a GREAT job eating what algae I have, but I must admit, when I put in algae wafers, the discus often finds them first!

Put the algae wafers in at night after the lights are out.

Wow, your Discus eats algae wafers? Mine wouldn't even give them a second glance, lol.

Hmm my discus don't give algae wafers second look either..Is it possible you may not be feeding your discus enough? Doesn't sound right if it is trying to eat up the algae wafer before the algae eaters can get to it. How much and how often do you feed them?

Well, Alfred eats flakes, slowly sinking pellets, shrimp, and bloodworms. I have to admit that I do not cook for him, though. And I do need to put the algae wafers in at night.... very good point!
