live plant care
how do you care for live plants-fertalizers?-substrate?-co2?
Depending on the plants. Some plants require certain amount of watts. Usually these plants require fertilizers, with CO2. While others would grow no matter how little light you have in the tank, like java moss. It's possible to have a tank with very little lights, little or no ferts used (survive from fish waste or food decaying and minerals from the water), and no CO2. This type of tank is called a low tech tank.
All of the above give them the best start they can, seriously!

Depending on the lighting you have, you may need to dose NO3 (nitrates), PO4 (phosphates), K (potassium), Calcium, Magnesium and some kind of trace fertlizer. All of these can be had from Seachem although I use dry fertilizers since the price is much lower and it is easier to regulate exactly what I add. Traces and K should always be dosed, IMHO.
