Kissing Gourami tankmates
I have a Kissing Gourami in a 55 gallon tank right now. He/she is with some Australian Rainbows and Silver Dollar Fish. He (I'm just going to call it a he) has never caused any harm to those fish. He does sometimes chase them away.

I'm getting side tracked... But anyways I have tons of Sunburst Platies now that are all stuck in a 20 gallon tank. I was wondering if I could put a group of Platies in with the Gourami. There's plenty of places for them to hide, and even more places that the gourami can't reach because of his massive size. He's full grown and some where around the age of 8-10.

I've been doing a ton of research for this and I am getting mixed things. One reputable site is telling me that it will most likely be okay, but another is telling me that he will eat and kill them. I just need someone to tell me what I can do. I know it depends largly on the gender and the attitude of the gourami though.

Sorry if this is in the wrong area. I'm only used to posting in the Betta portion.

Sorry that I cannot help you but I too am curious as to what the answer to that question is. I have a Blue Gourami and am thinking of adding some tank mates. I need to know who would be a good mix with him. I have him with 8 Tiger Barbs, 4 Otocinclus (sp?) and a Rainbow shark. Everyone seems to get along great but I would like to be able to add more. Can't wait to hear the answer.

This fish is included in our fish profiles. In posts when the fish name is shaded, it means there is a profile--as Kissing Gourami; click on the shaded name and you will go to the profile.

The answer to your question is in the profile, in detail.

I wouldn't mix the two. I have a big kissing gourami that's almost 12 years old. I put a mid sized blue gourami in the tank with him to keep him company and the kissing gourami ate the blue gourami. I came home one day and all I found was some bones of what used to be the blue gourami. I did read in a tropical fish book that I have that you shouldn't put anything much smaller in the same tank with adult kissing gouramis. I tried it anyway and this is what happened.
