I've had a simple 20 gal. tank for about a half year now. I'm not that experienced with aquarium life so I'm not quit sure. I've had a cichild and a tigerbarb the whole time. Can they mate, because just yesterday their was what looked to be 7 baby fish (fry?). today they are all gone though. Anyone know?
Tiger barbs and cichlids don't mate. They are different species. What species is your cichlid? It sounds like a Lake Malawi mouthbrooder to me.
I cant remember, all I can tell you is that its silver with a greyish blue dot on each side with two long wiskerlike feelers on the cranial ventral side. I didnt really think they mated but I couldnt really think of another explination.
What I found was a bunch of what seemed to be brown eggs. Then they "hatched" and what came out had two big eyes and the same wiskerlike feelers. The next day when I got up they were dead though.
