What type of worms are these that I found in my shrimp tank??
This morning I noticed these worms in my shrimp tank. Most of them are an inch in length, some shorter and some longer. What kind of worms are they and where did they come from?? They almost look like California black worms but perhaps not? I thought maybe Tubifex but do Tubifex get an inch long?
They are under the substrate with a portion of their "heads" above the gravel waving around. I used a turkey baster to suck them out and I'm sure I didn't get all of them. I know excess food will keep these worms supplied so I need to cut back on feeding the tank but how do I ensure my shrimps are getting enough food? If I stop feeding the tank for a few days (to starve off the worms) will the shrimp be ok? It's a 6 gl shrimp only heavily planted tank with oodles and oodles of RCS of all sizes.
tubifex, add a few corries for a week.
Where ever would they have come from?? This little tank has been set up for two years and all of the sudden Tubifex?? Bizarre. I have no cories. I have some Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki in a neighboring tank that I could put in this tank but I'm pretty sure they'd dust off the shrimp before they went for the Tubifex. Cories have no interest in RCS??
dunno thought corries were pretty shrimp safe. They may eat juvenile shrimp, but won't hurt your breeding population. IDK where the tubifex would come from, but I have found some live ones in my tank before.
Wow, one person's blessing is another's curse.
I wouldn't get rid of them personally. Sure, maybe light up the amount of food you give, but they are delicious for lots of fish, even livebearers, large tetras, etc.
You gonna kill the goose that lays the golden egg?
