I tested and all my water parameters are fine, the tank is 78 degrees. The fish in the tank (10 gallons) are 1 male fancy guppy, 3 female fancy guppies, 2 regular guppies and a mollie. Also I have two snails.
One of my female fancy guppies has been looking a little weird and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Originally she was acting a little weird; hanging out at the bottom and not eating much, and she was also producing waste that looked clear instead of its usual brownish color. That was about 2 days ago and now she is still hanging out at the bottom of the tank and not eating. She has also developed a grey-ish, tan-ish, off-colored band around the middle of her body. Also, her anus seems to be protruding a little and her belly is squared and a little caved in.
Can anyone help??
This sounds like internal parasites infecting your guppy. What are your water parameters?:) Metronidazole is used for cases like this.:) One tablet per 20 gallons is the minimum dosage I often used so you may try splitting it to half. Also, Metro can stimulate her appetite.
That's what I thought too, but then this afternoon she started dropping fry! I had her in a breeding net already because I was worried about the other fish bothering her. She only had 5, and only two were born alive. They swam oddly for a while and then died :( Now she is lying on the bottom of the net on her side looking really sick!
Nitrate- 40 ppm
Try to lower your nitrates to 20 ppm. It will be safer than just 40 ppm. Apparently, the guppy was stressed after you placed her in the net. It will be better to remove her from the net and provide her plants to hide(if you haven't already) so she won't be further stressed.
I let her gently out of the net and she hid in the plants for a while but then died about an hour later :(
Needless to say I was pretty upset. However, I woke up this morning to see two little fry swimming around the tank! I got them in the breeder net and have since found 5 more!
