Question on lighting.
I'm about to upgrade my lighting fromthe hood and bulbs that came with the tank. What is the rule on watts per gallon? I heard it's 10wpg, and I have a 55 gallon tank. Does that mean I need 550 watts per gallon? That's seems like a lot. Help!!!
we dont use watts per gallon here, 250 watts of MH should be enough for most corals in that size tank. Maybe have 2 150 watt MH lights, one on each side, then it will be fine.
to make it easy..if you have good lighting, you want about atleast 4 wpg to keep corals. but wpg is not the best way to measure. power compacts are good for your easier corals like leathers, polyps zoas and such. but for better corals you will need better lights like mh's.
