My new Orca platy fry pictures
4 Attachment(s)
I have Bumblebee platies that have 3 color patterns of babies. I keep the blk. hooded head bumblebees and the the Orca pattern. I want to develop the Orca pattern more. They are moslty black hooded heads with white like a Orca whale. I've been having problems with them dieing after a few months. I found 4 of them and put them in a breeder box to stay safe til they get bigger. I've been feeding Immune Booster flakes that I got at that I ground to a fine powder and mixed with some other good flake food. I'm hoping that this well help my Orca babies survive better. Here are some cute pictures I took today of them. My bumblebee platies drop only a few every so many days or so.

Grandmother, what big eyes you havve. lol That last picture is so precious with that giant eye looking at you as you snap the picture. I like the coloring. What do you do with all the babies? It seems so many people are always breeding their fish. Don't your tanks become over run with babies? Do you sell them? My problem would be I would have to get more tanks to house my babies. That could get out of hand quickly.

They are so adorable!

I fish out all the solid yellow babies and the patterns that I do not want to keep. I gave Mordalphus on this forum 2 of the babies I found + 10 Black Bar Endlers when I traded stuff last week. I belong to a a Tropical fish club that meets once a month and has auctions before each meetting. I sell them or put them on the free raffle table. Most of the ones I do not want end up as food for my bigger fish in my 55 gal. tank that has bigger tetras and Wild Columbian Rams. I will replace 1 anglefish out of that tank that died sometime in September so that I will be home for a while to QT it before adding it to my main tank.I will QT it for a month or more. I like keeping 1 big display fish in my main tank so the angelfish will be the biggest when it grows bigger at 4-6" I plan on getting a nickle size baby to watch grow up with the other fish in that tank.

I can't keep all the babies and I do not want to buy any more tanks. I have 5 tanks ranging from 2.5 gal to 55 gal. being my biggest and a 3 gal. QT tank for new fish or hospital tank. I know some of you might think this is cruel but it's nature. I give some away on craigslist for free and always have people that want them for free. I rehome them with powdered food when they are small frys.

Alot of people have a community tank that has livebearers mixed in the bunch to control over fry population. The strong survive is what you want. If you have enough plants and hiding places some might survive among the bigger fish. Survival of the fittest so to speak.

I wish there was a fish club in my area, well there is but its just pond koi, it would be so fun to trade with people instead of having to buy/order everything i need.

Web site to fish clubs
Here is a web sites for fish clubs in different areas in the U.S.A and other places from the Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine directory. I belong to the San Diego Tropical Fish Society. If you are in the L.A area I think their is one over in that area also. Do a Google on Tropical Fish clubs in SO. California also. I posted this another time on this forum somewhere before also.

Yea I live in a smaller area little more then an hour away from LA and too far out of my range to goto a club, I've googled it and found nothing so assuming there is none or they just dont have a web presence if they do, I might ask around a bit but have a feeling it will be in vein .

Web-site for more clubs listed
If I can get these to not die and get a bunch. I can sell some to some of the people at this forum in the future. These will not breed true as they were born by Bumblebee platies. The ones that don't fit my pattern I'm looking for will need to find a new home. I would charge cheap and you pay me back for the shipping or a trade for plants or something I might consider also. Those do look pretty nice looking. I've been calling them my Orca Platies.

Here is another site I found on fish clubs if not in the above web-site
