Whats wrong with my goldfish?

Hey guys i'm just gonna go straight to point. I have 2 new ryukin goldfishes, about 2" each in a 10 gallon. The tank is about 3 months old and also tested the water which turned out excellent. It is day 3 now and both goldfishes stay in the back corner and could rarely see they're food sinking. Is there something wrong or are they still getting adjusted to the environment? Thanks!

Also the 10 gallon is temporarily. In maybe a month or two, I will be transporting them to a 55 gallon.

Keep an eye on them, sometimes fish do that while adjusting... and sometimes they arent well. How does the color look, is it fading? also look out for glaze over the eyes... thats bad. If the food is just sinking to the bottom, do you remove it? leaving it there to decompose can cause nitrates (not good). What did you get tested- PH, nitrates, nitrites? And do you have a filter? What kind?

Im not a professional on fish, but I hope to clear up some stuff in case your problem is out of my reach of answers. :)

Alright so my parameters are:
pH: 7.1
Nitrates: 0
Nitrites: 0
Ammonia: 0
As for filter, i have a marineland bio-wheel 30 gallon filter.
The water is somewhat faded but still looks healthy and clean.
As for leftover food, i try and get most of them out.

Ok thats all good but I meant the color of the fish :) .

If all the conditions are good and the fish seem healthy just keep a very close eye on them

Ohh haha, yeah the color of the fishes are still bright and healthy. Actually i think they are gonna be fine. They started to swim around now. Following my fingers. I guess ill just bond with them for awhile til they get adjusted with the environment and me. Thanks so much for your help!

No problem I'm glad they're feeling better :)

I have to say, keep a VERY close eye on your water quality. 0 nitrates is a bit of a worry - there should be SOME in there if the tank is fully cycled. When you say it's 3 months old, did you put anything in to cycle it with? Ammonia? Fish food?

I've never had ryukins, but I do have fantails and telescope eyes. They were all quite shy until they settled into their new homes - only took a few days for them become the cheeky, funny fish they are now. :)

Yeah i had some food in there why it was cycling. But i will keep a close eye. They are starting to swim and eat normally now.

Hey guys it's me again. Do you guys know how often to feed ryukin goldfish? I feed them twice, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Is that ok?

amberjade 07-25-2010 06:19 PM

I only feed my goldfish once a day, with some peas once a week. Watch goldies - they act like they are starving, when they really aren't! LOL

Twice a day is fine as long as it is a really small amount. :)
