I know of this small, family owned pet store that has a lot of healthy fish. As well as a pretty good assortment. A small problem.... It's 45 minutes away. Is that too far to transport fish before it gets to my tank?
An example of a fish I'm looking at (not sure about getting it yet thought) is a Blue Ram.
They also have a fairly big variety of tetras. I know these guys are pretty hardy little guys.
45 minutes is definitely not too far. I know of a couple of pretty good fish stores that are roughly an hour away and have been using them more as the more local store went out of business.
Oh really? That's awesome. I love that little pet store. Might have to start using it now. I just didn't know if it'd be safe for the little guys to go that long.
+1. I'm actually going to a LFS 45 minutes away from me this Sunday. What I typically do is take a cooler with me. I'll put the bags of fish in the cooler to hold the temperature as steady as possible and it also keeps it dark for them. The temperature issue is more during cold winter months, but I do this year round. The darkness tends to cut down on stress for them during a slightly longer transport. As for the duration though, they'll be just fine :-) Good luck! I'm hoping for some good finds as well.
Lisa, which one?!
YES, Johnny! hahaha. Going to take the ride to check it out. You still think it's worth the trip? I'm going to call today to see if they have what I want in stock.
Honestly, calling first would be your best option. I stop in there everday on my way home from work. Their fish variety is great, awesome actually, but the turnover can be slow sometimes. I haven't pin-pointed the day they receive their new shipment of fish yet, although I think it's thursdays and mondays.
I enjoy their fish selection, they have a small, but pretty decent plant section too.
I would call first and see if they have before you drive over there.
Awesome, thanks. I'm looking forward to checking it out. You can always ask management what day they get their fish delivery, too.
Agree with the others.I've bought fish from the Petsmart 45 mins away and they've all done well.
