Can an old salt water tank be used for freshwater tropical fish?

I have just brought a secondhand tank and discovered it has been used as a salt water aquarium. Can I use it for my freshwater tropical fish? It came with plants and ornaments would I be able to use them as well? If so what should i do to prepare it? Cheers

soak it in fw for a few days and use a hard sponge to get rid of any resuidue then give the deco a good scrub down but please don't use soap.

Welcome to TFK!

Is the tank drilled? Other than that, I think it should be just fine. Of course, you'll want to give it a thorough cleaning. It might take some razorblade action and some vinegar to get rid of those salt deposits, but once thoroughly cleaned it should be alright.

The big issue is freshwater to salt not the other way around. With a good cleaning it should be fine.
