Quiet Filter

Hey all, I'm looking for a quiet filter for a 20g. If it was made for a 30g that'd be great too! I've got a marineland penguin 100 on a 10gal (HOB type) it works great I'm just a little tired of the water trikle noise and when I go to set up this new tank I'd rater avoid this if I could. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Mike

p.s. they don't make canister filters that small do they?

Is your water level up to the filter?

+1; raising the water level should really cut down on the noise.

Oh yes I know, the water level is at the very top. I can't put my arm half way in the tank without it overflowing. It's not a waterfall noise...just a trickle but if I could change that for a new tank I'm starting that would be much better.

I'm with agreeance with bones and batman, on the water level, but if you say the tank is near full, perhaprs your filter is not sitting flush on the edge of your tank??

hmmm....if thats not the case, perhaps the fitler is clogged and only a little bit of water is seeping through?

The filter is sitting correctly on the edge of the tank, the return is below the water level and the flow seems to be just fine, the filter material doesn'y look clogged.

I've never had one but canister filters are supposed to be pretty quiet correct?

Thanks for the replys/ideas so far yall

Has anybody heard/seen/used marineland's C-160 Canister Filter before? Its rated for a 30gal tank. http://www.marineland.com/sites/Mari...=1998&mid=3226

It looks to be pretty decent.

I have no tried the C-series, I use a 350 Magnum Canister for my 55G tank, I can't even hear it run, but thats rated for a 75 gallon tank...

Alrighty well thanks all for the help. I'll have to look into the C-130 I suppose.

You're unlikely to ever find a perfectly silent filter. Some noise is inevitable. My penguins have always been extremely quiet so long as the water level was kept high. Even a canister is going to make some noise and personally I think a $100+ canister filter is massive overkill on a 30 gallon tank.
