Lamp Leleupi/Yellow Lamp Cichild
Are the above mentioned cichild a dwarf cichild?
Was wondering if its aggressive towards other smaller fishes and corys?
Please do advice, any input is most appreciated..:-D
I'm not sure if they are dwarfs or not but I have read that males achieve a size of about four inches with most females topping out between two to three inches. To me that's a dwarf cichlid, lol. Someone else will have to verify the classification of this fish. I don't know anything about their "personalities". Someone else will have to chime in with this info.
thanks aunt kymmie, the alternative name would be lemon cichild, i am attracted to it by its vibrant yellow color but am unsure bout its behavior towards smaller fishes.. tempted to get it yesterday buy hold myself back and do some research b4 doin so..
"Dwarf cichlid" really isn't a well-defined term, but Kym's figures are accurate.
However, the real issue here isn't compatibility in terms of temperament but rather water chemistry. Most "community fish" like tetras, corydoras, barbs, rasboras, etc. come from soft, acidic water while Neolamprologus leleupi comes from the hard, alkaline waters of Lake Tanganyika in Africa. For that reason, I wouldn't suggest keeping this fish in a community tank. There might also be aggression or other compatibility issues as well, but the chemistry is reason enough not to keep these guys with regular community fish. They do work well in small Tanganyika community tanks, though.
thanks for the input, i think thats a good reason.. thanks a lot.. it looks like i cant get my hands on it.. But anyways, its good to know and to confirm my suspicion..
