help ID my new plant?
So i grabbed this puppy at a fish uber mega store several hours away in PA, and noone there could identify it. i stuck it in my planted 55g and the thing is just booming! it went from 6" tall to the skyscraper in my 55 in only a month or so. What i want to know is A) what is it, ive had trouble identifying it via pictures on websites... and B) what i should do with it... i.e. leave it bunched, spread it out, how to propagate it, so forth.
any help would be uber appriciated!!
Perhaps it's some type of Rotala species?? Not really sure. Is it possible to get more of a close up shot??
Im actually thinking Rotala Wallichii but no, that stuff where it is is one ROYAL PAIN to take a picture of lol out of 60 or so shots thats the only one worth while. ill try again tonight, but I think you might have hit it on the head!
It's Rotala wallichii :D
1. just trim the stems to the desired height, and replant the trimmed plant :D
2. pull off the whole plant, and trim off the bottom portion (those with roots) and replant the top portion.
Both ways work, but method 1, new shoots will grow near the tip of the trimmed plant. I guess it's a faster way to trim and propagate the plant, compare to method 2 :D
They are fast grower, give them enough light, and they will turn red towards the tips. Letting them grow out of the water surface, the top of the plant will convert to the emersed form and grow flowers :D
Check this out, my Rotala growing flowers :D
so it seems to me, if the plant is going to grow in my tank its going to grow awesome period regardless of what I do to it! lol I love this plant, need to try it in my other tanks. Thanks sooo much borneo!
This plant has character, just observe them you will know :D
