Hammers Cobalt Blue Lobster to be exact. Anyone have one in their tanks? http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...41&pcatid=1641 I was thinking of maybe adding one in the future. What are your thoughts? It says they will get along with fish as long as they are not real small and slow moving. I don't know if Gourami's are fast enough but I do know they hang more toward the top of the tank instead of the bottom so they would probably be alright. I am sure my Tiger Barbs are fast enough. I wonder about my little Black Red tail shark?
They would be a cool color addition and it would be nice to have something cleaning the bottom. My shark does a little but I think this might be a nice addition once the others get bigger. Thought? Experiences?
i saw the red ones at the lfs today.there even more striking in color. when the have their hard shell on i think they will be ok.the barbs will probally pester him but they pester everyone else in the tank anyway.just make sure when he malts he has a safe place to hide till his exoskeleton gets hard enough to fend off the barbs.
I would think twice about adding a crayfish to a fish tank (these are true crayfish as that linked article even says). From what little I have read on them, they can eat plants, and they will kill any fish they can get their claws into. And since most fish sleep at night, and these do not, they would have a field day. Some sources report they attain 12 inches.
Agree with Byron. Don't do it, Inga! You'l wake up one morning and wonder why some of your fish have gone missing...
Thanks, I have decided against. I already lost my favorite blue Gourami today and am heart broken. He was damaged when I brought him home. He swam like he had a little kink in his tail but then over the past several weeks, he seemed better. I was the fish that I have wrote about on here, being so friendly and curious. He didn't seem to grow either, the others have doubled in size since I have gotten them but "little blue" stayed small. I am sure it sounds crazy but I am really sad about that. I don't know what happened to him but I suspect "big Bertha Gold" had something to do with it. She/He chased Little Blue a lot. I miss that little fish already. :(
Don't worry, I won't do it but I had half a mind to buy a Paraná to teach Gold a lesson.
Aw, sorry you lost your "little blue". These things happen and it always makes you feel bad. I know what you mean about wanting to teach "Gold" a lesson, I have quite a few of them right now that I'd like to give lessons to, that or a quick thump to the gills. (bad fish, bad)
Only us crazy fish people understand.
Romad, I am so sorry to hear about Blaze. It was a bad day for our fish. :(
I absolutely love my crayfish, it seems as though he's gotten a little more comfortable as he doesn't run away from me now, and he's out and about during the day more and more often now, on the other hand, he destroyed almost all of the bacopa in his tank, as well as java fern, and he had a nice pvc tube with java moss going like crazy all over it and he trimmed it like it was a lawn, and then just ate all of it until there was nothing.
I didn't notice any aggression toward the feeder rosys I put in there, I put one in, it was in there for a few days, then I think the minnow died of its own poor health and thats probably when he went after it, then another one was in there almost a week with no signs of being attacked, but some online searching seems to suggest that some crayfish are more aggresive than others, while all crayfish will go after a dead fish.
But it seems like a 10 gallon with a small filter is great for a single crayfish, I almost want to get another one now that I have my other 10 gallon tank freed up lol.
