I bought some guppys from my local feed store about 2 weeks ago. One of them was already preggy. This mourning my mom told me that she looks pretty much read to give birth. I didn't belive her at all because she was eating and everything. But because my mom told me to, I did so. Right before I came home I notice a red substance coming out of her. Not quite sure what it is, but I have ideas. Any information on that can help. Anyways I cam home from work with a huge surprice, 8 guppy fry! She looks like she is not in labor anymore because she doesn't have that black spot and isn't as big. I was only gone from work for 5 hours. Can she still be in labor? I know it takes her 2 days to eat so I was wondering when I can realese her into the normal tank? She is in the birthing tank right now.
It seems she has finished dropping her fry. There might be more fry than you counted. I wouldn't count on the whole batch though as some may have already been eaten by the mother. Naturally happens unless you have plenty of plants. Expect her to be gravid in a few weeks time.;)
Thanks! Seperated her from the babies. I already feed the babies. There eating and doing great. No stillborns, and all are swimming. Were going to go pick up some microworms and other food for them. So what was the red thing coming out of her? That's not a sac or cord is it?
