what should i put in my sump?

i have everything for a 20 gallon tank and in the sump i know i need a heater and a skimmer but if i alredy have lr and a skimmer do i even need a filter?

i would put some live sand down there and also some algaes and then you probably could get away without filtration as long as you do your water changes and the live rock is really good and mature.

ok how would i get algea in it tho do i have to buy it or grow it or what?

you could just go to any of the fish sites or even ebay. The best to get is macro algae. The only thing is you would have to get a light for your sump and run it 24/7 so it will grow. I use chaetomorpha, i bought some of ebay and now my sump is crawling with little bugs, some bristtleworms, copoeds, and etc. But that would deff. help with corals if you are planning on having any. But if you are doing fish only i would just make a regular sump
