new to plants, not a clue.
 

So i have a gourami pair,a kribensis pair, 6 kuhlis, and one bumble bee cat fish in a 45 gal tank. i really really want to plant this tank, but not spending over $100 something. Anyways, i had a few ideas of what i would like, iv seen this type of floor covering mossor some type of plant. i have know idea what its called, but that is one of the main things i would want to get. sorry i cant be more specific. but i would really like some help on what to do and get for a beginner in aquatic plants.

Are you talking about Java Moss? If so it is normally pretty cheap and grows really fast.

As a groundcover, I doubt you mean java moss. You probably are talking about something like christmass moss or star moss....

Both of witch are nearly impossible to grow in planted tanks. (Christmass moss for one, likes a lot temperature- around 70.)

Not to say 100 isn't enough money...

You could have a really nice setup with some swordplants (a few dollars each- 6-8 would be plenty) along the back, maybe some hairgrass for the front (or echinodorus tenellus), and possibly some crypts along the midground.

Throw in some bunches of stem plants, and you'll have an awesome setup for...
about 60..

Of course, you can plant less and let it grow in. (Thats what I usually do.)

If you have really rough gravel (larger gravel) you might have to stick with stem plants.

The link you posted is not working for me but some other plants that I have that are very easy are Ozalot Swords, Radican Swords, Amazon Swords, Wenditts are really nice and come in green, red and bronze which adds some color. I also have a bananna plant which I really like the only thing I have had that I did not like was Java fern. I also have a few Vallisneria that I think are very pretty with there wavy leaves. And my newest addition that I am also really likeing is Anacharis it grows really fast and is easy to trim and put in other tank. I don't have any special light or anything I just use Seachem root tabs every 3 months and excel flourise once a week.

I planted my tank a few months ago.First time with plants also.On the advise of several people here on the forum I got mine from http://www.sweetaquatics.com. I called first and they answered all the questions I had and were very helpful with choosing plants for my setup.I got 14 plants and 4 nerite snails for $32 including shipping.

Wow you got all that for $32.00 I will definatly be checking them out. LOL I just paid almost $11.00 at one of the LFS for two plants.

Some suggestions from other members have already been added, but I am going back to your comment about being a beginner in aquatic plants. Just as with fish, there are some things you must provide to keep the plants healthy, and again just as with fish, various plants require slightly different things. If you don't, any plants you put in the tank may well die and discourage you from bothering with plants, which would be a real shame because they are not that difficult and plants benefit the fish in many ways.

I suggest you have a read of the four articles at the head of this forum section entitle "A Basic Approach to the Natural Planted Aquarium." They cover all the basics in a broad outline.
