Where do you get the cool rocks from?

I have noticed that in many of your aquariums, you have rocks stacked up into rock castles, of sorts. I am wondering where you get the rocks from? How many of you get them on beaches and just boil them? I have not seen any in the fish stores around here but would love to add some to my tank. I especially like the medium to large flat rocks. I would like to be able to lay them about to create some hiding spots for my pleco when I get one. Thanks for you help.

As for flat rocks I think alot of what you are seeing is slate, I read here you should be able to get some at a garden store, just make sure its untreated so it doesn't leach anything bad.

I get mine from landscape supply stores...you know, where they sell gravel and decorative rock in bulk. Much, much cheaper than the LFS. You can usually find lots of variety from flat slate to round river rock to granite boulders.

Thanks, I will look into that. I think they look really nice and I think it seems like a good hiding spot for the bottom feeders.

I do the same. I have lots of red shale I got from the landscaping store for a couple bucks for 50+ lbs of it. I still have some out in the yard I don't even have the space for, yet!
