Rosy Barbs My mother surprised me by buying me a new 4 gallon tank, (with my card lol) anyway, she also brought home 4 rosy barbs to go in there, I have always stayed away from barbs because they just sound horrible but the LFS woman had been keeping fish for years and convinced her it was all fine, as soon as I saw them I was sceptical and after much deliberation I added them with my male betta which again my mother said was fine. Now I am scared they havent shown no signs of aggression towards my male but they are very active and I know they shouldnt be in that size tank, I could put them in my 12 gallon but would they be aggressive towards my female bettas or the other fish? Thanks and sorry for all the questions lol |

I have Rosy barbs and while they might not be aggressive their activity could stress other fish. They need much more room than a 4g tank because of this and the fact that they will get bigger. |
I just happened to have added the Rosy Barb to our Profiles yesterday, here's the link: http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/profiles/rosy-barb/ As you will see, these are active swimmers and grow to 3 inches and must have at least a 3-foot tank. If this is not feasible, please consider returning them; they will be under considerable stress in a 12g not to mention 3g. I do wish people who work in these stores would refer to books or those who know about fish species before commenting. No wonder people's fish pine away and die and they come back for more. |
