Aquatic Catapillar? What is this?
Okay sot his thing showed its big ugly this morning. AFTER taking all the leaves off one of my Sword plants. What the heck is it and should I be looking for eggs or coccoons or something? oops... the dog just ate it... not shaping up to be a good day. Anyhow. What was is and how do I detect and prevent more?

LOL the dog ate it?
Its some type of aquatic insect larva. Should not be of major harm, just toss it in the garbage.

wow i can not offer an ID but i would take a clean water bottle and load it with some fod and leaves and (with a string attached) fill it with tank water, settel it on the bottom, leave it in the tank over night pull it out in the morning and see if you catch anything... if you have fish that may fit drill the cap to just a little larger than you estimate this creepy crawly to be

Yeah, that's a recurring theme at my house. If you leave anything gross laying out for more than a few seconds he does a fast walk past and slurp. He's eaten two fish (one live, one dead), that caterpillar, a hand full of snails and lots of random grossness that I pull out of the tank. Gotta love Labradors.
LMAO I love labs but they have weird quarks like eating hoses.

It looks like some sort of beetle larvae to me, but since I can't think of any water bugs, other than water bugs (which I know don't look like this) I doubt it. Interesting and I'd really like to know what it is, too.

I've sifted through google images and forum after forum but I'm not finding anything. That and my picture seems much more detailed that the ones I'm seeing. Grrrrr. about two weeks ago I purchased two Aponogeton ulvaceus plants and a couple of Swords. I'm guessing he hitched a ride on those. The irritating part is the monster ate ALL of the leaves off one of them and now I'm finding huge holes in the Ulvaceus. I therefore dub him Jerkworm.
