which one should i buy for a 55 gallon tank full of rock. 8 cichlids? running xp3 filter with diy return bar. air bubbles stretch 3/4 of the back of the tank. made from a air hose. no stones.

i would buy 750, but i really dont think you need one.

Is the tank situated so that you could add a hang-on power filter to the tank? That would provide increased water movement as well as increased filtration, which is important with messy cichlids. I think you could spend the same amount of money on a power filter and get more bang for your buck.

I agree with Batman. Extra filtration will always trump water movement but some folks don't care for the look of hang on the back filters on their tanks. An Emperor 280 by Marineland would be my choice for HOB filter.
If water movement is all you wish,, then I would go with the pump rated for 425 gal per hour. Believe the 750 might be a bit much.
