Can I put a Mystery snail in my 5g hex? Or is it too small....
It has a completely covered lid, it has the built in marineland bio wheel filter hood.
I have an Otocinclus vestitus (sp?) in there but he is extremely lazy and does not clean the algae worth a darn.
You could probably put a mystery snail in there. They will eat algae, but they don't really "clean" the glass. Instead, they tend to leave little trails through the algae where they've been munching.
Yah, that's what my turbo snails in my 10g saltwater do. They actually do a really good job of cleaning say 80-90% of it off everything including the glass and even the heater and protein skimmer, but like you said you can tell where they've been LOL. I just didn't know if 5g was too small for a mystery snail since the last one I had in my 55g grew FAST. (He had a LOT of algae to munch on though!)
One or two mystery snails will do. 2.5g per snail.
Thanks everyone! :)
I was hoping it wasn't too small for at least 1 snail. I love watching them, as do my kids! Not to mention they do a great job cleaning up! This is the smallest tank I've ever had, so I just wasn't sure. (besides my 1.5g betta tank that was my VERY first, it never had anything but a betta)
Its saltwater, but that guy in my avatar is one of my huge turbo snails looking like its attacking a teeny tiny blue leg hermit crab. (actually just checking out, he didn't know what he was running over, LOL! He left it just fine though.) He's neat, but mystery snails are prettier. I think for my big tank I want to get some bumble bee snails!
