Oscar needs a couple buddys
The five inch Oscar you have would appreciate a larger tank now with filter capable of filtering six to eight times the volume of water that the tank holds each hour. Example.. 40 x 6 = 240 gal per hour.
Were it my fish, I would be looking for at least a 75 gal tank for the one Oscar.
I would decorate the tank with large smooth river stones, driftwood, slabs of flagstone and or clay flower pots large enough for the fish to rest in if it felt like it.
Lighting would be dim and substrate would be dark colored pea gravel no more than one inch deep to allow gravel vaccuming to be more effective.
Would feed a wide variety of foods and would perform weekly water changes on the order of 50 percent without fail. Opinions vary.8)
I think at 5" or so it might be a bit too late to try adding other cichlid roomates as your oscar might not tolerate them. If you moved him to a well-filtered 75g (or larger) tank, I think you could have the oscar and maybe something like a Synodontis euptera or some other similarly-sized catfish.
