Speeding Up The Cycling Process?
I just put my 5 gallon tank back up, and want to try and speed up the cycling process with some gravel from my other tank thats already cycled. I was thinking of putting a good amount of gravel behind the bio-pad on an Aquatech 5-10 gallon HOB filter. With this being said, how much quicker do you think it will speed the process up? A lot? Not that much?
I would place about a cup full of gravel from the cycled tank into a a mesh bag, or toe section of a pair of ladies nylons. Would gently push this into the gravel of the five gal and leave it for ten days or,, hang it in front of return flow from the aqua tech if tank is to be bare bottom.Would then place some filter material from the cycled tank behind the black bio pad of the aqua tech. Would provide near instant cycled five gal tank.
Do take note that without a food source for the bacteria (ie) fish waste, fish food, the bacteria will begin to die off.
Will need to add three or four small fish to the five gal after you place the used gravel and filter material in the tank or feed the tank a little fish food each day to keep bacteria alive.
