Critter & other i.d. please.
Can anyone tell me what these are please?
And this algae please.(Which is getting everywhere)
Thanks for having a look :-D
the first picture is a bristle worm, they can be dangerous if they get out of control so watch out.
the second is aptasia which is a fast spredding anemone which will suffocate other corals
the last is most likely a diatom bloom, which is good for your tank and after it dies down by itself you will most likely be ready to add fish SLOWLY!
Brilliant, thanks for that Teddy. Now do I machine gun the Bristle worm or let him go for a while? (There appears to be only one) It may be hard enough to do coz he seems quite quick at disappearing into the rock :)
Same applies to the Aptasia and once again there only seems to be one of these.
It's good to know that the algae will subside and I look forward to that. It seems to be prolific where the light is as the back of the rock and the undersides are clear of it.
Thanks for the reply
Watching & Learning.
On close examination over a bit of time I have discovered three of these little creepie crawlies.......... They're fast, I went for them with the pointy nose pliers and they disappeared very quickly indeed. Perhaps I should get a youngster to try to catch them. One is quite big and looks easy enough to catch.... lolol.
Is there a way to wipe them out en masse or do I have to chase them individually round the tank? I have also noticed that the brown algae is appearing ever so faintly on the glass. Should I leave it or clean it now whilst it's barely showing?
Thanks in advance
There is no reason to kill a bristleworm if that is what you are trying to catch. they are scavengers which should not be a problem unless the tank is overfeed and they get big
I'm totally new so I may over-react. However, thanks again for the info. All greatfully received. I'm in the midst of trying to track down a skimmer that fits into the Resun 400 to progress it a bit further.
hey sorry for not responding, you can track them down if you want to but they wont harm if you dont overfeed. the apasia you can kill with pure lemon juice in the center of its mouth, they will be bad for the tank and get really anoying
Good info and a good laugh. Bonus!
How do I apply the lemon juice?
