single male swordtail

i know tetras for example are schooling fish but what about swordtails? i know its a bad idea to keep more males than females or one of each but would a male on his own be happy with other fish? i have a male swordtail with come catfish and mollies. he seems happy enough but what i want to know i will he actually be happy? i didnt want to get any more swordtails but i have got room and will get another 2 if hes unhappy just now.

thanks

One swordtail is fine. If he is doing excellently in your tank, I see no reason why you should add another one.

swordtails are territorial by nature they are quite happy on there own own/with other species

thanks for your replies. i will just keep him as he is then as he definitely seems very happy . i had planned to use the extra room for a couple of cories rather than other swordtails so ill go with that now.

im late bu tif you do get more swordtails get two femalse per male. if you have a pair the male will chase he female around until she gets exhaused, a second female prevents this...

and it goes without saying dont get a 2nd male unless you want at least 4 females and a large tank

I had to do that. I bought 3 males before I knew how to tell the difference in males and females. It was nice of the LFS to tell me not to buy that many males by the way. Anyway, once they settled in they started getting very aggressive towards eachother and my one female lylretail. I did my homework and picked up 5 more females so now everyone is happy.
