So, I want to put a shoal of 6 Rummynose Tetras in my aquarium. My question is: How do I manage to SLOWLY import the fish ( a couple at a time) and still have them shoal together.
Will they shoal if they are not put in the aquarium all at once?
Also, I want to add one Neon to my shoal. Will a new one join the pre-established group?
Sorry for all of the noob questions :P All of everyone's advice has kept my aquarium crystal clear and healthy so far, and I want it to stay that way!! ;-)
I added my group of 6 pristella tetras 3 first, then another three. The later 3 joined up with the earlier 3. I suspect that yours will also join the existing group.
If you add new fish of the same type, they will join the established shoal because they feel insecure in their new environment (for the most part). I had one weird fish once that didnt but he was the exception to my past experiences with fish!
Agree; with most all characins, new fish added to an aquarium with an existing group of the same species will join in usually immediately. There are some species that can be troublesome with their group hierarchy, but not with rummynose and neons.
And on the rummys, I would definitely add all six at once; assuming this is your 29g and there are some live plants, this will not be an issue. Also, they can be delicate, and six is better to aleviate issues than 2 would be.
Yes, its the 29 gallon, and there are some plants in it. Good to know. Thanks again for the info. :-)
