Breeding zebra danios
I have just got three zebras I have them in a 17 US gal tank. I really want to breed them and have read a lot on this. I would like to know what are good foods to condition them with; I currently have dried bloodworms, dried daphnia, regular flakes and frozen brine shrimp. Will this be enough and should I give them vegetables too?
I know they breed very easily but I'm unsure what sex they all are yet! I think I'm going to use the net method rather than marbles so I know I definitely have eggs!
Also, should I take out the filter (fluval u2) and use an air pump instead? I can run the filter in my community tank so I don't lose my bacteria.
Any tips/answers would be great!!

Frozen and live foods are usually good for conditioning purposes. Any frozen foods small enough for them to eat (bloodworms, brine shrimp, tubifex worms, daphnia, maybe even chopped krill or mysis) and live blackworms would be good.

As for filtration, something like a sponge filter that can't suck up fry would be good for the fry tank.

Thank you!

Try to use frozen foods fortified with extra nutrients if you can and be sure to continue to feed a good staple food (flakes, pellets) to give them a balanced diet, but an increased quantity of "treat" foods like the frozen and live stuff certainly does fatten them up for breeding.

That's great, I'll give it a go! They haven't seemed to be getting any fatter maybe I need to feed them more.

You might not be successful at first, sometimes it just takes some time and experience to breed them. Could take some weeks if you haven't done this before. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks Aaron, I will do. I'm also trying to get my white clouds to breed, I'll let you know if I have any luck! :)

Also it's good to have 2-3 males per female to have eggs fertilized, forgot to say that. I bred mine a while back but had to move so stopped my process. Haven't setup my system again either, but I'm thinking about it. Just had my Betta's and Swordtails give birth so I dunno atm.

Oh good luck! Bettas are the only fish I have managed to spawn so far :) not counting livebearers lol
