How often do cory's lay eggs?
Recently my female Cory laid eggs in my tank (90L community tank). Unfortunately before i could remove them into a breeding tank my Zebra loach's decided to eat the lot.
I only have 1 female and 3 male albino Cory's and was wondering how long you think it will take her to lay again? or how long i should leave it before trying to trigger breeding again?
Thanks for any replies
Hi Dan, I don't know the answer to your question but wanted to welcome you to TFK! Someone will be along shortly who knows the answer to your question. How many zebra loaches do you have?
I think it really depends on the water conditions and feeding. If you condition the female really well, she will lay more eggs, more frequently than if she was being fed less nutritious foods less frequently. My cories were spawning once a week at one point and I also had only one female.
I also think the species of cory can have an effect on that. Mine are coydoras paleatus (peppered cories). There are many different species of cories.
Pretty much what I am trying to say is, that the amount of eggs laid and frequency of spawnings depends on several factors.
To have an idea of when your cories might spawn, you can look under your females belly. She has an egg pouch thing, where her unfertilized eggs are kept. When it seems that she is full of eggs she will probably spawn soon. The males will spawn whenever there is a willing female, providing they are healthy.
Hope this information helps :)
