ich and plants?
I think a couple of my fish have ich. I need to get rid of it without hurting my plants if it is possible. Is there a way I should go about doing this....chemical treatment....high temp with salt....or what?
I really am not sure and I really dont want to hurt my plants as I just spent alot of money on setting the plants up.
I have used several ick meds without harming my plants at all. What kind of fish do you have? I would choose a med that is safe based on the fish in your tank. I am using Quick Cure right now and I also have the heat up to about 86 and the plants have been fine. Some people say to add salt with or without the heat to treat ick, i have never tried the salt since I heard that it can damage the plants. Best of luck! Michelle
I have gouramis, long-finned black tetras, giant danios, a beta, bolivian rams and blue rams and also some cories and a pleco.
The fish that seem to have the ich are the blue rams. I just added them about 5 days ago and were fine at the time but now are showing signs of what I think is ich. I went back to the petstore where I purchased the rams today and the tank they were in was being conditioned and not for sale. I think they had ich too.
Know your water parameters first before using medications. Adverse effects will be prominent from the combination of meds with bad water quality.
I would simply use salt for two weeks minimum along with increasing temperature. Salt will, of course, raise the temp as well. They can damage the plants temporarily.
well if you had quarantined them there are more options. For now im pretty sure you can find some commercially available product that is safe with plants.
Thanks for the advice.
