Corn is evil (Pic spamm'd) (a lot)
Or so one of my friends, Anna claims. This is a different kind of corn, though, and I feel that they are very far from evil. I've been seeing some of the reptiles are here lately (beardies and turtles, I look at you, here), so I wanted to formally introduce my two scalies, Spitfire and Aris. Y'all got a look at them in my tank thread, but here they are post-shed, post-trauma, and post-...vacation? Yeah, I'll get to that in a moment.
First up, Ariston! Ariston means "the best", and he is. The baby of my heart, the apple of my eye, the orange of my soul. <--- Made that last part up.
Here he is when I first got him. He still has his hatchling coloration, so he must've been maybe... a month or two old? Less? SOO tiny.
This one below is my favorite picture of all time for him, since he's got such pretty coloration going onn (:
Here we are a matching set...:
And here he is today, literally! Little bugger didn't want to come out of his paper towel roll (:
Here you can see his scars really well ): Poor babe. This is today, too.
And on to Spitfire!!
Here he is right after coming home... I had to use the "wimpy glove", since he was so "spaztic". Every time I blinked, he flinched. It was like a game :D
Here he is/was when I managed to calm him down enough. Here he's about 21 inches long, but he's shed since then, so he should be longer by now...
Close up of his head markings...
And then, here he is today. Poor boy has gone three whole weeks without handling, and it shows... I can't touch him. In this picture he is frantically trying to escape the giant, pink monster that shoves flashing silver things in his face. It's back to square one x3
SHADDOW CAT ATTACK
Just 'cuz he's cute and I knows it :3
Congrats! You made it through the picture spam! :P
Also, here are a couple facts....
Corn snakes are widely accepted as "the" beginner snake because they eat well, have pretty much gentle personalities, and have such a huge array of color morphs. Aris eats two small baby mice a week (called Pinkies), and Spitz eats one juvenile (called Fuzzies) a week. They are FROZEN/THAWED, not live. Live feeding can result in some pretty horrific wounds to the snake if they're not hungry, and I'll never do that to my babies ):
They'll (maybe) get to be 6 feet long, and live to about 15 or so years. Aris is an Amel, or red albino corn snake. When they're red albino they lack black pigmentation. There's also the black albino, which are called Anerys, which lack the red pigmentation, and snow corns, which lack both red and black pigmentation. (There's SO many more, but this is just the "albino" info)
Spitz is a Crimson corn snake, which is a type of Hypo Miami. Miami isn't an actual morph, but a specialized "Classic" coloration. So, he's basically a hypo classic corn snake. Hypo means there reduced black pigment, but it IS still there.
Last of all, corn snakes can live in a 20 gallon tank their entire life. So long as they have enough greenery to feel protected, hatchlings can live there happily until they die of old age.
Yay! You made it! Did I fill your brain enough? Can you tell I love my babies? :3 D'aww. I love them too much xD
I love Spitfire! I want a corn snake with his coloration.
Thanks! Yes, Spitfire is a nice example of my favorite corn snake morph :P While far from rare, I think they're beautiful :D
I wish my mom would let me have a snake. The only the reason she won't let me have one is because when she was younger she stepped on, I think, a cotton mouth.
Oh, well, yes. That might make me scared of snakes for a bit x3
I guess so...What type of bedding do you use?
Aspen is my hands down preferred, but Aris is on paper towels until I'm positive his neck is all healed up.
What happened to him?
