Something Amusing I Witnessed
Yesterday I witnessed my frog shedding, this is the first time I ever saw it.
He sat in the dwarf baby tears and thrashed about for a few seconds, loosening his old skin.
A ghost shrimp near him proceeded to take his shed skin and ran off with it, the frog chased after the shrimp, biting at the skin that was trailing behind the tiny shrimp. They played tug of war for a bit before the shrimp lost his grip, but at that moment, the frog seemed to have lost interest in the skin and swam away.
I tried to grab pictures but there wasn't enough light for macro!
Lovely. I expect the frog was upset at having lost his nourishing snack.
Thats funny. :P I saw my frog do this before and I was scared he was dying.
It's kinda weird they eat their own skin...
Wow. They eat their own skin? Weird
There may be exception species, but most amphibians will eat the skin they shed. It is full of protein and their instinct tells them not to waste it. My newts used to do this regularly, and the frog of course.
i never knew they ate their own skin!!! really cool you got to see that!!
That IS interesting! You learn something new every day.
