got my otos at last!
 

got 3 otos to co exist with my puffers, they r lovely!! i got pics of 2, i cant find the other one hes hiding too well!!!

I hope you have better luck! I thought all of mine had died...but today I saw one lonely one...

...won't get more until I have some idea of what they died of...

...water is good...other fish are fine... :(

lack of food? i think one of my oto died of cyanide poisoning as well :(

ive read in a previous post that they will only it algae? is there really nothin else they will eat?

Oto's are notoriously difficult to keep alive from all accounts.

Mush, how did cyanide get into your fish tank??

oh dear, so if they die, wat else can i keep with dwarf puffers? maybe shrimp or somethin to clean up? i dont really like shrimp tho :S maybe a small plec of some sort?

Shrimp are natural puffer food so i doubt you will keep them alive. Im suprised the octos are still alive how long have they been "coexisting"?

4 days? why wouldnt they live? they r known to coexist with dwarf puffers? least thats wat i read here somewhere????

Otos aren´t that difficult to keep if you follow a few rules. Most tank keepers keep their tank pretty clean which means there is lack of nutrition for the otos. You can cover this by feeding them with vegetables. They will love it even if it first seems they don´t like it. Try it a few times and you will see they like a peeled piece of cucumber, salad, fennel, broccoli, etc. .

Keeping them with the puffer fish, well, uhm, puffer fish aren´t a good species to get along with other fish but if it is fed good, there might not be any problems at all. I guess that depends on the puffer itself.
Anyway, it´s possible, that the otos will live much longer than the puffer if the puffer´s fed the wrong way. Those guys usually need snails for their teeth or something else to chew on otherwise their teeth willl grow until it´s not possibel to eat anything.

and that applies to the dwarf puffers too? didnt realise they had teeth! i found a web page all about em b4 i got them, didnt mention teeth, and im aware that some ppl keep them in a community tank. but for risks sake i decided on a tank for them only. i hope my otos live, they r cool. ill try some veggies, thanks
