which light is best at night? Arcadia 1W Led submersible spotlight or Aqua Medic Hello everyone! I have a Juwel aquarium that I keep 3 clown loaches in. I have already used the two slots on the roof and want those lights to stay in place. One is a day light and the other is a colour light. Id like to create a natural night (moon) setting. Im new to fish keeping and I want to get a night light that doesn't stress the fish. Hopefully its possible to find a light that will allow me to enjoy the loaches being themselves at night. Iv been recommended a Arcadia 1W Led submersible spotlight or Aqua Medic AquaMoonlight. Which is best? Any other suggestions? Any advice is most welcome. Thanks! |
I think you will have to do a bit of a search, perhaps through this forum, google.. I have been surfing all over and saw reference to lights that can simulate moon phases, but that was through an aquarium monitoring software site. It may just end up being personal preference: just ask questions like you have done here. I think the majority of us don't have night lights (or do we??) and perhaps that is why there hasn't been an answer. I just shut my tanks off at night, but now you've given me an idea. Welcome |
I have this fixture on top of my tank. It comes on in the evening, after the main lighting goes off and is on for an hour. It's nice and my clowns and yoyos like it. http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/203758/product.web PS. Welcome to TFK, 1warren! |
look into Cold cathodes and LED's. These are very thin low profile and can be siliconed into your existing hood. I make my own and it costs $10-15 depending on tank size, and if you want them dimmable. Cold cathodes are best for larger tanks cuz wiring LED's can be a lot more difficult compared to the simplicities of cold cathodes. Here is a good page for making them, to make dimmable ones you just need to run them off a universal 12 v AC/DC converter. These have a switch for 12,9, 7.5, 5,and 3volts which is what allows the dimming. A cold cathode running at 12volts on a 55gal. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...1/P1110170.jpg these are LEDs, they are a darker blue and the camera doesn't pic them up as well. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...1/P1110158.jpg |
