Is there any more room...?
Hello! I have a 25 gallon freshwater aquarium with the following stats:
AquaClear 30 filter
Heater (79 deg F)
One Japanese Moss Ball, one Sword plant "Grandifolius"
One dwarf gourami
Two mollies (male)
Three platies (male)
One mystery snail.
Is there any possibility that I could add one more platy or a trio of guppies to the mix? Looking at my aquarium there's still lots of space for a fish to find a quiet corner if he or she felt the need.
I really like this site http://www.aqadvisor.com/ for getting an idea of how stocked my tank is. I think somebody on this forum designed it, actually.
Using that calculator, I input your tank, filtration, and fish, and it determined that your stocking level is 77%. It also had a couple suggestions for you:
If you want to keep more than 1 Molly, minimum recommend male to female ratio is 1:2 (M:F). You will be less likely to experience problem if you get even more females.
If you want to keep more than 1 Platy, minimum recommend male to female ratio is 1:2 (M:F). You will be less likely to experience problem if you get even more females.
If you add guppies in there, it says you're 95% stocked. So, it seems it would be fine :) It's a cool site, play around with it!
How "old" is your tank, when did you set it up. The zeros are good in front of Ammonia and Nitrite, but not nitrates; if your tank is cycled you should have a reading there.
I see that she has a reading of 10 for nitrates.
Is it fact or fiction that my fairly mellow Dwarf Gourami would eat adult guppies?
I don't think a dwarf gourami would eat adult guppies. Feeder guppies maybe, but not fancies (as they're much larger than feeders). It would probably help keep your fry population down, though, should you get female livebearers. I do think you've got space for a few more fish in there.
