Something strange with my heater

I have a 20 gallon tank with a 100 wt. Via Aqua heater. The heater is approximately 5 years old. It's worked great over the years I've had it. My house gets down to 62F at night sometimes in winter, yet it keeps the water where I want it--right around 82f. l

Well, last night the weather was the same as it's been the last several nights--same temp. 90s during the day, and 60s during the night. I closed the window to be sure the room didn't get too cold, and this morning my thermometer (in that tank only) read 78F! That's never happened before unless I made a mistake with the room temp getting too low. So now I'm wondering if the heater may be on it's way out. The light is on it now, and I bumped it very slightly up, and over the last two hours the water is now at 80. So it seems to be working fine now.

I wouldn't be too terribly concerned, because I know 78 certainly isn't cold, except that I have a GBR in there, and I know they are sensitive. Going from 82 to 78 overnight---isn't that a bit too much for a Ram? Or am I over reacting? I have a back-up heater, as I do for all my tanks. Its an Via Quart 100wt as well. Should I just see how things go, or put the new heater in? I don't want to stress or lose my GBR! Thank you!

Better safe than sorry. I would replace it. Just my opinion.
