to sand or not to sand...?

as many of you know i am preping a new 90 gal tank....

the new delema is sand or gravel?

ive never used sand before, but really like the way it looks... a lot of things ive been reading make it sound like sand it harder to maintain/clean then gravel...

im so used to just hooking up the gravel vac and going at it.... can i do that with sand? or will it just get sucked out?

Sand is not harder to clean. You just hover your gravel vac right above the surface of the sand and all the gunk comes right up. IMHO sand is easier to clean than gravel. After I'm done with the vacuming I give the sand a stir to release any gas pockets that may have built up. I have sand in all my tanks and love it.

I have sand in 5 of my tanks and love it. All the poo/debris stays on top instead of working it's way down like it would in gravel. Plus it's much cheaper. You can get a 50 lb. bag of play sand for about $5.
