what would you do in this situation?
So, i have a friend who has a love for animals, but doesn't really...research before she gets them. She had a 10 gallon tank (not cycled :( ) that she had two catfish in, a ghost fish and something else. But her land lord came in and told her she was not allowed to have a fish tank. So she put them in a two gallon bowl with a pump, no filter.
and for some reason we can't find a pet store that will accept them back (she can't remember where she got them) and the closest place is over 100 miles away that will accept them.
I personally have 2 5gallon tanks that each contain 1 betta. they have a filter and everything they need. She said that she would give the cat fish to me if i wished. My only problem is i can't have a bigger tank. and im not sure if they are Cory's or Otos... (need to look that up some more) they are about 1.5 inches and .75 inch.
My tanks have been going for about a year , so by now i suspect that have cycled. (when i go back over to the city i need to grab a tester)
Would it be ok for me to adopt these fish, at least till i find someoene with a bigger tank?' I really would like to get them out of the small bowl and my bettas don't seem to be overly agressive... what do you think? im afraid they wouldn't make the hundred mile trip... but i don't want ot put them in a worse situation either
Now that i think about it, i don't have a clue what type of fish these are other than sucker fish (sorry thats a horrible term) they have a white stomache and greyish brown back kinda with speckles or something... she was told they would only grow to the size of the tank...
Grow to the size of the tank?? Yikes! That can't be what she means - right?.
Have her take a picture or two with her cell phone if she doesn't have a camera and then post them here. Someone will be able to identify.
I rescued two cory catfish and put them in my 5 gallon with my betta for a few months. I removed them because he chased them (didn't hurt them) relentlessly and they were getting worn out and stressed. So I guess it depends on the personality of your betta.
Lol no not grow to the size of the tank, more like, if you have a huge tank they will continue to grow, but in a smaller tank they won't grow so large. Growing affected by the size of the environment.
That look alot like this ^^ in body shape and coloring, just a little different markings
They could be peppered cories if they look similar. Try google images for those and see if they look more like them.
If they're any species of corydoras they're going to be better off in a cycled betta tank than in an unfiltered fish bowl, except possibly if the betta is really aggressive. They prefer to be in groups but you can keep a group of those in a 10g tank along with some other fish. A group of six of them along with a betta in a 10g would make for a nice tank (again, so long as the betta didn't bother them).
To little to late im afraid. :( she called to tell me that they both died day before yesterday :(
