Would this lighting system be ok for mbuna tank
I seen the arcadia range of lighting, some really dear and some affordable.
You can get this controller, i'm not sure what it does exactly.
But im thinkin it can be fastened to the underside of the hood and compacted so you cant see it, maybe box it up, then the flourescent tubes go on under the hood and thats my lighting sorted.
Anyone comment on this type of lighting.
And is it suitable for mbuna?
That might work, but as long as you're building a wooden canopy I think you're better off just buying a shop light and screwing it to the inside of the canopy. The reason for this is that the light in that link doesn't have any sort of reflectors so you'd have a lot of light loss whereas a shop light usually has reflectors built into it. Something like this:
The fish won't really care what sort of lighting you use. Personally, I think mbuna look pretty good under marine-style lighting so you might want to get one daylight bulb and one actinic. Plain ol' daylight or even just standard cool white would be fine, too.
A plain fixture would be better from my point of view. You could easily access different spectrum bulbs for it. When you do use specialty fixtures, there might be no spare parts or probably not repairable.
