Stocking a 55g
 

I'm planning on purchasing a 55g tank
and have no idea what to put in it
any suggestions welcome:-)

How fun! I'd like to have your "problem", lol. What type of fish do you like? I'd visit a few fish stores, see what catches your eye and come back for input. Do you want to do a theme tank (biotope), cichlid tank, community tank, etc. There are so many ways you can go. Rocks and caves, or plants and driftwood? Endless possibilties here.

i say that you should put an oscar if you like big fish. if you like small fish guppies will be good. if yo like bettas you can put up to five i suggest the most in a 55 gallon. but make sure of course you reseach if you havent already HAVE DIVIDERS or they will kill each other...:-D:-D

Another important consideration--what are your water parameters (pH, hardness)? Working with what you have is much easier than going down the road of adjusting the water which is not that easy. Some fish are very specific, others less so, within reason.

The options are endless and the trheads from everyone are right. The water parameters could dictate your tank, but the set up is only limited to you imagination.
