So for a friend's daughter's birthday, I gave a glo-fish starter kit. Girl ABSOLUTELY loved it. Named a fish after me. Lol.
ANyways, on Monday, one of them died. My friend thought that her dad had taken the fish out, but it turns out he floated up to the top and became transparent. Is the transparency a common thing with Glo-Fish?
well glofish are zebra danio's. which are hardy fish.
I'd suggest checking the parameters of the water, like pH and all those.
However If only one died I can't say it was the water conditions that did it. It could have had other factors.
Was the tank cycled with or with out the fish?
Read over this topic, it might explain more on the cycling of the tank
I've never bought glo-fish, however I plan on adding them to my danio/tetra/killifish tank in the future.
Because of this I can't say they turn clear upon death. However other fish do turn slightly transparent upon death.
Oh! Gosh, no, it was cycled, I did it myself. I think it might have been stressed because they JUST moved this past weekend I think.
also pending your LFS you can return them and have them replace it for another... b/c it died withing X days... most stores have a 7 day period.
I know. I'm quite aware of the return policies of Petsmart.
Tehe. I like how nobody answered the question.
I've never actually had glo fish before though, so I can't answer it either. :P
Are they cool?
Well, a lot of smaller fish are pretty much transparent if you look at them closely anyway and when fish die they tend to "wash out" completely, i.e. fade to their least impressive and most transparent coloration. Since GloFish have some pretty bright pigments when they're alive, they might be noticeably more transparent upon death. Just my guess, anyway.
FINALLY, thank you for not telling me about the cycle and return policies.
A mod can close this thread now.
I'll keep it open just in case someone else wants to ask about this phenomenon or has more information about it.
