will cories eat molly fry?
ive recently got myself a nice new big tank and plan on getting some mollies for it. i have another smaller tank just now in which i keep a group of cories (in the hope that they would breed but no luck so far). if my mollies were to give birth, would it be safe to put the fry in with the cories? or would this be just as bad as leaving them in the big tank with the parents. also, could i put the mollies in the smaler cory tank to give birth as i dont really like the idea of breeder nets etc
Your fry would be fine in with the corys - the corys are too slow to catch the fry, and wouldn't even attempt it in the first place. :)
thats really good to hear. i really cant afford yet another tank for the fry so that works out really nicely. you never know, after they see the molly fry (assuming the mollies breed) the cories might decide to have some of their own, which was the original plan anyway lol :D
i take it that it would be fine to move the molly into the cory tank when she was ready to give birth as well then? to try to eliminate anyone getting eaten in their first few seconds of birth before i manage to move them to the cory tank? i know the mum could eat them in the first few seconds, but theres less chance of her alone eating them than a full squad of mollies.
thanks very much for your help.
I can't see a problem with that.
Good luck with them :)
just look at cories they have small underslung mouths surounded by barbels and a short dumpy body hardly a predator
i know but at feeding time theyre not long in coming up to the top and guzzling whatever is there - i just wanted to check to be 100% certain. im just beginning really and wanted to make sure as some fish can be surprising.
