FInal stocking list, is it good? Alright so after months of thinking and thinking ive come down to this as my stocking list with plats and all so here we go:-P Tank 5.5 gallon Substrate-natural (dark) Plants Java Moss Java Fern Water Sprite Other Driftwood Pots Livestock 3-5 Endlers 3-4 Oto 5 red cherry shrimp 5 amano shrimp Id anyone sees any problems with this im open to advice. Phil :) |
for a 5.5 gallon that is rather overstocked......me, personally, only use my 5 gallon tanks to house single bettas with a pair of african dwarf frogs OR shrimp with snails. those are the only stocking ideas i have as i do not keep many tanks that small. but there is a good website to help determine stocking level, compatability between tank mates, and filtration capacity. it is www.aqadvisor.com a member on here designed it, it is a very useful tool. |
i'd nix the otos. and maybe the amanos. my amanos are voracious eaters (larger bioload than what it seems). maybe replace with a couple nerite snails or something. |
I'm with the others on not having the otos in that tank. They're little guys but they do need a group and even for fish as small as they are they can produce an awful lot of waste. |
Alright sooo how about im gonna do this 4 endlers and 5 red cherry shrimp the smart calculator says its 101% stocked but i think i will be ok considering ill have only males and the are smaller. |

Yes i already have one oto though :/ i don't know if hes different or what because i added him to a uncycled tank (before knowing they are fragile) and he been alone for a little over a year and he is super interesting to watch. i dunno? Phil :) Ps. My filter is made for a 15 gallon tank so its pretty big. |
i think your stocking list is much better! as for the one oto, i cant help you there as i have never owned them |
